RTT USA and Art Center Explore Luminescence in Latest Podcast
May 31, 2009 | Levent OZLER
The most recent Material Intersections podcast coproduced by RTT and Art Center College of Design's Color, Materials and Trends Exploration Laboratory (CMTEL) features LA-based design firm Padlab and its Flexicomb material, which was inspired by drinking straws fused together.
The podcast, led by Michele Hess, director of RTT's Material & Color Connection, and Marshall Hamachi, CMTEL's associate director, focuses on the topic of luminescent and bringing a tactile quality to light.
Flexicomb is showcased in the podcast as an interactive material that changes color and produces sound when bent.
Using RTT DeltaGen, Hess and Hamachi visually communicate the concept of luminescent by virtually applying Flexicomb to unusual applications such as home interiors.
"Flexicomb is typically used for lighting fixtures, but we step outside of the box in this podcast and bring Flexicomb to the interior installation of a home to show how light and shadow bring the material to life," said Hess.
