SkyCross Opens Korean Design Center, ShenZhen Is Next
June 16, 2004 | Levent OZLER
SkyCross, a provider of embedded antenna technology that TechALERT profiled in December 2003, will open a design center in ShenZhen, China. Earlier this year the company opened a similar office in Seoul, Korea.
"You have to be a full service local partner," explained SkyCross CEO Christopher H. Morton. The overseas offices help handset manufacturers with antenna design, application engineering, and prototyping. So far this year SkyCross has four new design wins in Korea and received a $1 million investment from SK Telecom, Korea's leading mobile phone operator. The company also says it has a new design win with an American manufacturer of wireless access points. Names of new customers are undisclosed.
SkyCross is an excellent example of a company whose direct expansion is driven by the needs of OEM and ODM partners. IPAs should look for matches between products made by their leading manufacturers and foreign providers of component technology.
