The Outer Limits Transport for London Poster Competition

The Outer Limits: Transport for London Poster Competition

July 4, 2009  |  Levent OZLER

Transport for London (TfL) is steeped in a history of innovative design which was built on the convictions of one man, Frank Pick whose energy and vision changed the face of transport in London and the indeed the face of London itself during the 1920s and 30's.

During this period many designers from all disciplines were commissioned to create striking original works which led design into a new era.

Some of the most famous designs from this period included posters by Edward McKnight Kauffer, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Paul Nash and even Man Ray.

Examples of these innovative poster designs advertising events and places of interest found in and around London can be seen online at the London Transport Museum.

Continuing this history of commissioning cutting edge design; the London Transport Museum and Transport for London, partnering with London Design Festival and Visit London, are launching an open competition to design a poster that communicates the discoveries, pleasures and excitements found in London beyond zone one.

Deadline for entries is July 27, 2009.
