2nd Round for 2nd Floor: Duravit Offers New Possibilities for Room Division
August 16, 2009 | Levent OZLER
Duravit launched the 2nd floor collection, designed in collaboration with Sieger Design, in 2006. Inspired by the architectural study "Private Heaven" by Michael Sieger, 2nd Floor epitomizes the notion that the bathroom is in a state of transition, moving from its traditional role as the most private room in the house to one that encourages communication, wellness, and relaxation by opening up the standard floor plan. Now, Duravit has launched four new 2nd Floor designs that emphasize the evolution from classic bathroom furniture to the integrated, seamless floor plan.
By opening up the floor plan, 2nd Floor creates new possibilities in the bathroom. Now, the washing area does not necessarily have to be fitted against a wall. Positioned at 90° to the wall, the new 2nd Floor vanity unit with console opens up fresh perspectives in room design and layout. The vanity unit measures 158 cm (62 1/5"), has four drawers and can be combined with one or two consoles or built-in washbasins with an illuminated shelf at the back. The water and power outlets are in the wall yet remain hidden on the narrow side of the furniture, positioned left or right, as desired. The furniture's inlets and outlets may be customized at the factory if required.
Rounding off the range is a double-sized tall cabinet measuring 1 m in width, which features a sliding mirrored door and interior lighting. Additionally, the entire 2nd Floor series is now also available in a new high-gloss white finish. As such, the entire bathroom can be perfectly coordinated in a consistent color scheme that embodies the ceramic, tub, and furniture. In its entirety, 2nd Floor offers the possibility of creating new perspectives and integrating the bathroom into the overall living space.
