Young 2009: Creative Production Agency Shop Around Portays Dutch Youth Culture

Dutch Contemporary design is universally seen as the melting pot of cutting-edge twenty-first century creativity. Some great Dutch Illustrators and animators that are renown for their eye-catching contemporary work have now joined forces for "Young 2009".Creative production agency Shop Around collaborates with the top layer of this Dutch illustration and animation scene. Strongly stimulated by Shop Around, these young artists have proven to be founders of new trends and new movements in contemporary illustration and animation that most definitely are able to surprise and inspire you.

Young 2009
In this project ten Shop Around artists have been responsible for creating the design and installations for the exhibition "Young 2009" that is being held in the Historical Museum of the city of Rotterdam, the European Youth Capital of 2009.
In this exhibition about today's youth culture, the passion of ten young representatives of this culture in Rotterdam is highlighted. A passion that ranges from dance, music, skating, motherhood, fashion, spirituality, education, politics, graffiti and sports. Shop Around interviewed them extensively and was able to create ten concept designs that each characterizes one of these young people.
From a close pool of 80 artists we chose ten contemporary designers and gave them each the task to translate one of the basic concepts into their own design and installation by using their style and vision.
The outcome of this cooperation resulted in an eclectic mix of contemporary sculptures and installations. Ranging from a giant "paper craft toy" to meters high stained-glass windows, interactive animations, statues and also an object that is entirely made out of felt.
Next to exhibiting the art works the Museum also organizes many activities around this theme and these young citizens.
This exceptional exhibition in the Historical Museum of the city of Rotterdam will continue until January 3, 2010.
