V&A at Dundee: Victoria and Albert Museum Plans Design Museum Outpost in Dundee

August 19, 2009  |  Levent OZLER

The £42.5 million outpost of the Victoria and Albert Museum planned for Dundee waterfront will create the largest museum of contemporary design in Scotland.

Mark Jones, the director of the V&A, outlined proposals for a partnership between the London based institution, Dundee's city council and its universities, that its backers hope will create a new institution known as "V&A at Dundee" within five years.

The new displays will focus on fashion, architecture, product design, graphic arts, photography, "the interesting elements of contemporary design", according to Mr Jones.

"It's not about bringing surplus bits of the [V&A] collection - it's about sharing the most exciting parts of our programme, and working in partnership to make Dundee a bit of a creative hub," he added.
