Ziba Sets Stage for Chinese Shoe Giant's Global Push
September 22, 2009 | Levent OZLER
Ziba Design Inc., Portland's hottest product-design consultancy, is pulling the wraps off a makeover of China's biggest athletic-footwear and sports-apparel company.
Ziba has worked secretly for two years to begin transforming Li Ning Co., an expanding domestic Chinese competitor of Nike Inc. with $1 billion in annual sales.
Design sessions held in cloistered Ziba brainstorming rooms are revamping products and shaping more than 7,000 stores to be opened or remodeled across China.
"There's an incredible amount of Chinese pride and hunger for an authentically Chinese brand," said Jeremy Kaye, Ziba creative director.
"There's no brand loyalty because no one is speaking to them in a language that resonates."
