Big 4 Design Competition
February 25, 2010 | Levent OZLER
Channel 4 has secured a further five years planning permission for its Big 4, which has become something of a London landmark since it was erected in 2007.
For its next incarnation, Channel 4 is looking to current Art or Design students, and those who graduated from a BA, MA or other post-graduate fine art or design course at a UK art school or university in 2008 or 2009, to come up with a new design.
The next Big 4 must be a fun, playful design to inspire and entertain passers-by, visitors and C4 staff.
The proposed design must work with the pre-existing 50-foot high metal structure in front of the Channel 4 building on Horseferry Road, be weatherproof and hardwearing, and be able to be lit (from the outside or the inside) to make a statement after dark.
The winning design will be conceived as a 3D experience rather than a 2D design.
The closing date for the competition is March 26, and the winning entry will be judged by Alex Proud, owner Proud Gallery Ruth Mackenzie OBE, Cultural Olympiad Director and Maurice Blik, Sculptor and fellow of the RSA, alongside judges from Channel 4 Commissioning, Marketing and 4Creative.
