SCADCon: Annual Comic and Entertainment Convention
March 14, 2010 | Levent OZLER
The Savannah College of Art and Design has announced that it will launch SCADCon, a three and a half day comic and entertainment convention running May 12-15, 2011.
SCADCon will be the only annual university-sponsored comic con in the country.
SCADCon's stated mission is to maximize awareness and appreciation of popular art forms such as film, comics, gaming and animation through education, presentations, exhibit space, portfolio reviews, forums, screenings and other events that celebrate contributions to visual storytelling within the entertainment industry.
"SCADCon provides a unique opportunity to bring students of visual storytelling together in an intimate setting with professionals in the field, while also giving the public a chance to meet their favorite artists or stars and giving venders a chance to share their products" said organizer Mark Macaulay.
"What will make SCADCon special is the chance aspiring artists will have to get first-hand advice from the biggest names in the industry, while giving professionals a chance to share their experience and know-how with the next generation of artists.
This is something that's not regularly being offered from a university."
SCADCon will be open to the public and is expected to attract fans from all over the Southeast United States and beyond.
Organizers are looking to provide an eclectic range of programming spanning the mediums of comics, film, television, animation and video games, among others.
