Melbourne Water Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition

Melbourne Water Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition

June 12, 2010  |  Levent OZLER

Imagine a city where water feeds into urban agriculture and lush vegetation that reduces the "heat island" effect of cities.

The Melbourne Water Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition brings together leading Melbourne designers to present fascinating installations relating to current water use and suggestions for sustainable change.

The Creating Liveable Cities Exhibition is the result of a 12 month collaboration between Melbourne Water and State of Design Festival, which started with a workshop of 100 people in October 2009 from range of disciplines - landscape architecture, engineering, futurists, marketing, social science and architecture.

Melbourne Water's motivation is to provoke and inspire designers to rethink the value of water and how they can collaborate with other professions to create a more liveable city - something that requires an interdisciplinary approach.

The exhibition draws on the progressive thinking promoted during the workshop to educate people about the extent of water use in everything from agriculture to manufacturing electronics, and how consumer behaviour can radically change the impact we have on our precious fresh water resources.
