Italian Design House Pininfarina to Build 75 Cars Under its Own Brand Name

Italian design house, Pininfarina, synonymous with avant-garde designs for Ferrari cars, will for the first time be building cars under its own brand name.

Only 75 units will be manufactured for its 75th anniversary next year, and it is estimated to cost about S$1.2 million each in Singapore.

A sleek looking two-seater is a prototype of the Pininfarina ENJOY.

Constructed with an aluminium chassis and wrapped in carbon-fibre body, the 850-kilogramme car can go from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in about 5 seconds.

The car does not have a windscreen or a top, so designer-helmets are provided for both driver and passenger.

The company says only 75 units will be made available worldwide, with 10 earmarked for Singapore.

Automobil Manufactur, the distributor here, says modifications have to be made before it can be used on Singapore roads.

Items being considered are a proper windscreen to accommodate the in-vehicle unit and a removable hardtop for foul weather.

Andrea Pininfarina, CEO, Pininfarina, says, "We decided to use our brand, but only for a very very limited series of vehicles. We're talking about 75, so our strategy is not to become another automobile manufacturer, but to continue to be a designer, engineering company and niche manufacturer."

The design house says if the ENJOYs prove to be a succes
