Christophe Koch Wins Timex 2154 The Future of Time Competition

That’s what Timex challenged when it put out an international call for designers to develop the watches of the future in conceptual, wrist-based and wearable categories for its "Timex 2154: The Future of Time" competition.
When 35-year-old professional designer Christophe Koch, a French-born Santa Cruz resident, heard about the contest, he knew he had a competitive concept, one that he’d begun developing about a year ago.
Koch works for Lunar Design Inc. in Palo Alto, but he and his co-worker Lea Kobeli, a Swiss native who lives in San Francisco, created and entered their project independently of Lunar. After about two weeks of preparation, they dubbed their joint presentation Time-aid, submitted it to Timex and took first place in the wrist-based category. They split the $5,000 prize.
While Koch was the visionary behind the initial concept, the two designers pooled their collective strengths.
"Lea was essential to developing the concept of form and texture," Koch said.
The most visual feature of Time-aid is the graphic watch face, which morphs as its wearer moves from one place to the next. It relies on the imaginary "Timex live clock network," a satellite/video interface that broadcasts live images of clocks all around the world. It can be ever-changing or se
