UK Seeks Input from Bicycle Riders

UK Seeks Input from Bicycle Riders

November 10, 2004  |  Levent OZLER

The University of Kentucky wants students and residents to fill out an online survey or attend a forum Tuesday night to help craft a plan to improve bicycling conditions on campus.

City representatives and Toole Design Group, a private consulting firm that will design the plan, also want better bike access to the university from surrounding neighborhoods and streets. They will host a public forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 209 of the Student Center, on the third floor.

Officials say the plan will create campus bike routes and could include more bicycle racks and riding lanes on city streets.

By encouraging more students to bike to class, officials also hope to alleviate traffic congestion and parking problems.

“Most people are not aware they can actually get there faster on a bike instead of driving around in circles and finding a parking spot, then parking and walking,” said Jennifer Toole of Toole Design Group. “It is actually a very efficient way of getting to campus.”
