Fashion and Technology Mesh at Levis Store

Fashion and Technology Mesh at Levi's Store

Finding a pair of jeans that fits has been the ultimate struggle.

Until now.

Levi's Jeans hopes to alleviate that pain with Intellifit, an electronic scanner that recommends jeans based on body measurements.

It's the best invention since toast," said Ahna Fugate, 40, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Fugate came into the store wearing a corduroy skirt but walked out in her new Boot Cut 515 jeans, one of several types of jeans the Intellifit system recommended for her.

The body scanner, a transparent glass booth, is equipped with a vertical wand that encircles the shopper and emits harmless radio waves.

Those waves measure every inch of the body by detecting water from the skin.

Those measurements are cross-referenced with the customer's personal preferences including fit and cut, providing the shopper with a selection of jeans.

During the 10-second process, shoppers remain clothed and comfortable, a convenience that sets Intellifit apart from other body scanners, said Edward Gribbin, president of Intellifit.

Levi is testing the scanner in stores across the country before making a decision on any permanent installations.
