April 29, 2005 | Levent OZLER
Safety Frame Dainese 2005 International Design Competition
Target
Design of a new concept for glasses/goggles to be worn under the helmet.
Theme
A new category: ideal glasses/goggles to be worn under the helmet.
First of all they must be safe, easy to use, easy to put on and easy to take off.
The following are some key words and thoughts for the design:
Light glasses
Flexible glasses jointed like a lobster shell or an armadillo, as the Dainese back shield;
Underwater goggles;
Goggles for parachutist;
Goggles for hobbies - do it yourself
Glasses/goggles that don't obstruct the visual field
Glasses/goggles close to the eyes
New category = under helmet;
Better to put them on without removing the helmet;
Arms articulation: joint allows the glasses/goggles to be bent outwards as well as inwards;
Flat arms = close-fitting to the face;
Arms absolutely not curved towards outer side;
End of goggles (the part close to the ears) must be designed to maximize comfort, because helmet presses auricles therefore these parts must not be thickened;
Lens in unbreakable plastic-organic material = safe lens;
Anti-scratch and anti-fog lens;
Bridge pad (the part touching the nose) designed to optimize comfort;
Glasses suitable to many types of lens (sun, graduated, photochromic, etc.).
