Mindanao Furniture Makers Urged To Boost Quality Of Products

Mindanao furniture makers are urged to create top quality designs to be able to compete globally.
Ann Pamintuan, president of the Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE)Foundation Inc., said a lucrative furniture market exists for Mindanao furniture makers who are willing to spend more time and effort to improve both the design and quality of their products.
She said Mindanao furniture manufacturers are currently faced with stiff competition both in the local and international market, thus, they should boost the quality of and create identity for their products.
"Over the years, customers always look for new and innovative designs," Pamintuan noted during a design and product development workshop here.
"If you do not catch up with the latest market trends, you will definitely be left behind." Reimon Gutierrez, a Manila-based designer, urged manufacturers to tap indigenous Mindanao products to come up with top quality designs that will sell in the world market.
He noted that Mindanao is endemic with high value raw materials such as coconut, tinalak and bamboo, which can enrich the designs of Mindanao-made products.
"Upon seeing the raw materials that are so abundant in Mindanao, I realized that there is so much more to explore. It will help create a stronger identity for the region," Gutierrez said. "Materials like these are
