File-Reg: Hogeschool Utrecht to Implement IP Registration

September 10, 2005  |  Levent OZLER

The department of Industrial Technology of the High School of Utrecht 'Hogeschool Utrecht' in the Netherlands have decided to implement File-Reg International's IP online registration service http://www.file-reg.com as an experiment to help combat the growing trend in Intellectual Property theft among students. The system will also help students become aware of IP protection and help give them more insight into the subject when finish their studies and enter the job market.

The registration system, which is free for students, is designed to irrefutably prove 'who' thought up 'what' and exactly 'when' and used to trace the origin of work generated by the students during their study. Concepts, drawings, designs, calculations, modules, R&D etc can all be registered at the push of a button. There is no limit to the amount of registrations that can be made and no limit to the size or file format they wish to register.

The school, with more then 30,000 students will first be tested with 2000 students studying Media Technology & Information Engineering. The File-Reg.com system provides proof of evidence but does not imply Patent or Trademark registration. One of the benefits of File-Reg is that users can legally prove they have actually carried out the research and development in developing a product.

The system also does not violate patent laws in regard to 'exposure' of work destined for patent protection since it is not possible to see, read, or recompile registered material by any third party - including employees of File-Reg International.

INSEAD, the worlds top-tier Business school will also be trying out the service within their New Ventures course web-site for budding entrepreneurs.
