IAA: a meeting place for top automotive designers
First international "VDA Design Award" for young designers
Cars - Pure Fascination: on 15 September the International Motor Show (IAA) Cars will become the meeting place for top automotive designers and design students from all over the world. The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the German Design Council, the German competence center for design, will be presenting the first international "VDA Design Award: Segment 2020" to young designers. The patron of the event is Prof. Bernd Gottschalk, President of the VDA.
The jury comprises top designers Walter de'Silva (Audi), Chris Bangle (BMW), Prof. Peter Pfeiffer (DaimlerChrysler), Martin Smith (Ford of Europe) and Bryan Nesbitt (GM Europe), and has selected a total of five prizewinners from amongst numerous entries. The designers will present the awards to the winners at the IAA; the moderator will be Andrej Kupetz, Managing Director of the German Design Council.
The international "VDA Design Award: Segment 2020" called on upcoming designers to turn their attention to the future of individual transport and mobility and to develop visions for the year 2020. Entries to the competition had to include a variable interior concept to allow a range of different uses, and the integration of alternative propulsion systems. The prizes are internships in the design centers of the vehicle manufacturers.
The winning entries and those of other finalists are on display throughout the IAA in Hall 1.1, where the special show "Milestones in Automotive Design" is displaying around 25 vehicles that have made 100 years of automotive history.
