Furniture Prize for Designer Couple with Holistic Approach
November 8, 2005 | Elif SUNGUR
The Danish Furniture Industries Foundation awarded the Raunkjær Kjærgaard Design Office (RKDO) the 2005 Furniture Prize consisting of a certificate and a cash prize of DKK 40,000.
The awards ceremony was held at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art, Copenhagen, on Tuesday 27 September 2005.
RKDO received the prize because of the designer couple's 'trailblazing conceptual approach to Danish furniture and interior design.
Early on in their careers, the recipients have challenged conventional perceptions of furniture design through their holistic approach in which furniture, furnishing accessories and utility items are viewed as equal elements.
The Raunkjær Kjærgaard Design Office documents the impact of its conceptual approach and working methods in a versatile customer portfolio spanning all price and product segments.
In every respect, RKDO is an innovative, accountable and open design company - in the experimental field as well - and sets an example that deserves to be followed,' according to the citation of the foundation board.
The Raunkjær Kjærgaard Design Office (RKDO) was founded in 1989 by Hans Thyge Raunkjær and Karen Kjærgaard.
Hans Thyge Raunkjær (b. 1957) was educated as a designer in Milan, Italy, while Karen Kjærgaard (b. 1960) received her education at the Aarhus School of Architecture
