Preventing Product Counterfeiting and Piracy with Quality, Innovation, and Speed

"China builds Transrapid magnetic train with own technology". These breaking news caused quite a stir last Wednesday, because the reports on the Chinese magnetic levitation train - with 500 kph supposedly as fast as the German Transrapid - gave once again rise to the accusation that China is merely copying imported technologies and implementing these in disregard of existing patent rights.

China has been facing accusations with respect to copyright infringements and disregard of intellectual property for a long time.

The "Middle Kingdom" is notorious for being the centre of brand and product counterfeiting and piracy - and this holds true in nearly all fields.

In a live interview with the news TV station N24, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and CEO of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, Germany, commented on the subject as design and economics expert.

He emphasised that a judgment, without having inspected the product in the first place, is not easy.

"However, it is difficult to develop such a complex concept in such a short amount of time without resorting to intellectual property already existing," Mr. Zec added.
