February 25, 2006  |  Elif SUNGUR

ASCE is pleased to announce the 2006 National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) will hosted by Oklahoma State University. The competition will take place on June 15-17, 2006 at Stillwater, OK.
The Concrete Canoe Competition provides students with a practical application of the engineering principles they learn in the classroom, along with important team and project management skills they'll need in their careers. The event will challenge the knowledge, creativity and stamina of students, while showcasing the versatility and durability of concrete as a building material.

Teams qualify for the National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) by placing first in one of the 18 Regional Competitions held throughout the United States in the spring. Teams that placed second behind a university that finished in the top five at the previous year's National Competition, are also invited. The NCCC is held in mid-June each year and is hosted by a student chapter or club of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at universities across the U.S.

The winners of the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition shall be determined by compiling a team's total number of points from the academic and race portions of the competition. Degussa Admixtures, Inc. shall award a total of $9,000 in academic scholarships to the winning teams' undergraduate civil engineering program. To be eligible to receive a scholarship, the entrant school must be a recognized ASCE Student Chapter/Club/International Student Group.
