Jonathan Lia
UVPHACTORY (UVPH), the New York-based design and production company, has named Jonathan Lia Director of Production Development. In his new post, Lia will be responsible for the identification of emerging markets and opportunities for UVPH, as well as the cultivation and maintenance of client relations. He will work directly with UVPH Principals/Co-Owners Scott Sindorf and Damijan Saccio and Executive Producer Brian Welsh.
"Jonathan shares our business goals and has the passion and drive to represent our creative vision. His outstanding reputation and depth of production experience will certainly help us to expand our overall market penetration," explained Scott Sindorf.
Damijan Saccio added, "Jonathan has a great understanding of all phases of production. He has proven to be an innovative strategist and business developer and his creative spirit and focused work ethic will surely be an asset to UVPHACTORY."
For the past dozen years, Jonathan Lia has been immersed in film and video production. An independent producer these last two years, he worked with numerous area production companies producing music videos, a feature and short films including videos for Jay Martin at DNA, Floria Sigismondi at Revolver, Elliot Jokelson at Oil Factory, and Ramon Bloomberg at Colonel Blimp, which were featured on MTV, TRL, MTV2, VH1, among others; a feature, currently in post, The Last New Yorker, for which he was Line Producer and 1st Assistant Director (directed by Harvey Wang); and the 20 minute short, Godless, winner of the 2005 National Board of Review Award (written and directed by Gary Graham.)
From November 2001 to January 2004, as Head of Production at Total Picture Company (New York, NY), he oversaw all production for a roster of Fortune 500 clients and was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the firm.
As Senior Producer at the now defunct Pseudo Programs, Inc. (New York, NY) Jonathan Lia coordinated the production of all live and pre-recorded weekly and daily shows, special segments and supporting websites on streetsound.com. Here he met and worked closely with Alexandre Moors, today UVPH's Creative Director. When Pseudo closed its doors in January 2000, Lia launched Motionlab Media Inc. (New York, NY), a full service production boutique, which for two years produced commercials, industrials and television segments. In addition, he produced two short films that made the rounds of the international festival circuit before securing distribution through Talantis and Atom Films. In 2001 Jonathan Lia produced a 12-minute short, The Lady Lovelace Deception System, written and directed by Moors. Today, he, Moors and Welsh are collaborating on the 25-minute Cherry Blossom, currently in post.
Lia began his career with brief stints at Magnet Media (New York, NY) where, as a producer, he developed program concepts for cable and video markets (including the Digital Media Training Series) and supervised all in house productions. As a Segment Producer at Flux TV (New York, NY) he produced and directed segments for the Billboard Award winning music show. But it was at Total Picture Company (New York, NY) that he cut his production teeth, joining the firm out of high school as a production assistant and, working around his college schedule, moving up through the ranks becoming an assistant art director, art director, assistant cameraman, director of photography, producer and ultimately, in November of 2001, rejoining the company as head of production.)
On joining UVPHACTORY, Jonathan Lia said, "UVPH has some of the best talent and experience in the industry and they consistently produce remarkably innovative work. Moving forward, I hope to leverage these assets and broaden our core client base. Also, working with the UVPH staff, whose immense talent, background and reputation in the industry is so widely recognized, is an exciting prospect for me both professionally and personally."
Jonathan Lia, who freelanced as a producer with UVPHACTORY before joining the team, will lend his considerable production expertise to future projects when appropriate.
Lia studied at both the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) and at The New School (New York, NY), from which he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Media Production and Theory, while working full time in the industry. He is 29 and makes his home in Astoria, Queens, New York.
