Expanding Its Services To Include HD Multi-Resolution Editing, Visual Effects, & The Ability To Output Deliverables In Infinite Formats
Buzz, the full-service audio post and finishing house, recently made HD finishing a reality, when they became the first commercial postproduction company in New York to purchase Quantel eQ. The multi-resolution editing, visual effects, color correction, grading and mastering system complements Buzz's ProTools/5.1 Surround Sound suites, by adding a long roster of high definition capabilities to its finishing services. Now, in addition to providing clients with the unique convenience of high-end audio and finishing services under one roof, managing partners Peter Flack and Michael Marinelli are able to provide advertising agencies with the ability to make fast, seamless transitions from standard definition to high definition in an infinite range of deliverable formats.
"For five years Buzz has been finishing many high profile spots on an Infinity Henry," notes Peter Flack, Buzz's Lead OnLine Editor "It came time to take a hard look at the HD landscape and decide on a direction for our company, as far as HD finishing was concerned. Although many of the variables are still in question, we feel strongly that the technology that eQ brings to the table is flexible, robust and supports our commitment to providing our clients with the ultimate one-stop environment for their audio and postproduction needs. "
Flack concedes that there is no "be all and end all" system on the market today. He looked for a system that could excel at the things that Buzz needed to do for their clients on a daily basis. Ultimately, he felt that the eQ was the one system that could not only meet all of their needs, but expand their services with a comprehensive roster of high-end features.
"Quantel eQ's ability to work in a true real-time multi-resolution environment was a paramount factor in our decision," notes Flack. "From editing and effects to color grading, the system has no limitations. We can incorporate any flavor of media - from 2k to QuickTime animation elements, and master deliverables for our clients in any format they may need."
Buzz is currently putting the finishing touches on their new Quantel eQ suite, which will be equipped with a Panasonic D-5 Mastering VTR to ingest and output HD tape formats, while 2K film elements will be handled as data in an external drive environment. This will cover the company's needs as the migration grows for their film and advertising clients.
The new system's Qcolor in-context colour correction option adds yet another new dimension to Buzz's services, giving the company the ability to expand the telecine elements with multiple levels of further enhanced corrections.
"Buzz has always provided a unique postproduction environment where the fusion of high-end mixing and finishing services - under on roof - created an efficient, quality-driven approach to their audio and post needs," noted audio engineer Michael Marinelli "Now, with eQ's advanced HD picture finishing, our Protools mix rooms can develop sophisticated Surround Sound mixes and clients can see all the finished elements together as they experiment, adjust and tweak their spots - in real time - until the final version is exactly the way they want it look and sound."
Quantel developed the eQ from the ground up with no limits on future developments. The eQ's software is tailored to squeeze the strength out of its proprietary hardware but also open to allow 3rd parties to write advanced tool sets to run on the system. There are no boundaries here.
