HP Customizes Designs Just for Asia

May 17, 2006  |  Levent OZLER

In one of its most comprehensive enterprise product launches ever, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has unveiled 17 imaging and printing products and five notebook series - all targeted to meet the needs of businesses across the Asia-Pacific.

Speaking at the regional media launch in Seoul, Ms Margaret Ong, vice-president of HP Business Imaging & Printing Group (Asia-Pacific and Japan), said that there is a need for more products that are designed and manufactured in Asia for the Asian market.

"We design our products based on Asian market requirements, as opposed to designing products based on American and European requirements and adapting them to markets here," she said.

Mr Adrian Koch, senior vice-president of HP Personal Systems Group (Asia-Pacific and Japan), cited the different consumer buying patterns in the notebook computer industry as an example.

Consumers in Asia prefer small and stylish portables while consumers in the United States opt for the big and black functional workhorses.

Multimedia entertainment capabilities are also ramping up faster in Asia than in other parts of the world, he said.

To develop products that meet the specific needs of the region, HP is investing "a lot of research and development resources" to study the environmental conditions in different countries as well.
