Milano Made in Design Exhibit

The iconic city of Milan continues to be recognized as one of the world's most powerful leaders in the design, fashion and manufacturing industries. On May 19th, the Province of Milan and Milan Chamber of Commerce will unveil a unique and innovative travelling exhibit, designed to take New Yorkers through an experiential journey of the Milanese culture.

From design-minded companies like Prada and Artemide, Boffi to some of Milan's famed manufacturing industries; the Milano Made in Design exhibit boasts over 120 exceptional items, handpicked by an elite committee lead by the Director of the Institute of European Design, Aldo Colonetti. As one of the cornerstones of the Meatpacking District Initiative, this multimedia installation will be open to the public from Friday, May 19th to Saturday, June 10th 2006 from 10:00am to 7:00pm.

"Through Milano Made in Design, we are giving Americans a taste of Milan in New York and communicating the passions, values and culture of our great city," said Filippo Penati, President of the Province of Milan. The exhibit will showcase a series of in-depth displays that represent the city's vital elements, including its culture, people, design aesthetic and manufacturing industries. Some of the categories on display include: Dresses and Objects, Lights and Shadows, Handmade, Home Sweet Home and Love of Details.

"Design represents a strategic sector for strengthening competitiveness, it characterizes our image of creativity and good taste linked to innovation" added Pier Andrea Chevallard, Secretary-general of Milan Chamber of Commerce. "An element for territorial marketing, an occasion to show Promos Investment Promotion Department created for attracting new investors to Milan."

In addition to this wonderful exhibition, Milano Made in Design will also host a variety of programmed events and workshops lead by New York City entrepreneurs, artists, writers and culinary experts. "Food Design," one of the event series being held at the Milk Gallery, will focus on exquisite Milanese appetizers. Lecturers will explore the relationship between food and design, as well as interior design and decoration. Other events range from interactive design experiences and exquisite lighting shows in the heart of SoHo to the Milanese artistic scene of the 60's. Throughout its run, this breathtaking exhibit will serve as New York City's resource to all things "Made in Milan."
