SolidWorks Design Contest: Passion for Design

SolidWorks Corp, a leading supplier of 3D CAD technology, has announced a design contest dubbed "Passion for Design," to showcase the engineering talents in the country. The contest will feature students and CAD professionals using SolidWorks software to design a variety of products that could improve everyday life.
The "Passion for Design" contest is aimed at enlarging and enhancing India's growing pool of skilled engineers, and will focus on designing products for energy development, life enhancement, and handicap assistance for the student community.
The top three students and top three CAD professionals will win over $20,000 in cash and prizes, including internship at SolidWorks, etc. SolidWorks' CEO, John McEleney, will announce the winners at the SolidWorks World India 2006 to be held in Bangalore on August 29, 2006.
According to SolidWorks, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) known as the premier trade body and voice of the IT software and service industry in the country, will support the contest by creating interest and awareness among engineering students, through its IT Workforce Development Initiative. This initiative seeks to boost the country's IT workforce, by bringing together expertise, resources, and opportunities from leaders in the IT industry and academia.
Design Areas
Student Category
Utilizing SolidWorks, participants of student category will develop a product in one of three areas:
Energy Development - A product that illustrates advancements in energy conservation and/or efficiency in alternative fuels such as solar, wind or water.
Life Enhancement - A product that improves the quality of life for the individual or group.
Handicap Assistance - A product that provides aid to a person with a disability.
CAD Professional Category
Utilizing SolidWorks, participants of CAD professional category will develop a product in one of four areas:
Consumer - An innovative product for household minimizing space and maximizing usage. Exterior design/ style is a major aspect.
Plastic Injection Mold* - A complete set of plastic injection mold.
Machinery* - An assembly with innovative designs improving productivity and maximizing usage of standard components.
Electrical/ Hybrid/ Solar Power Personal Transportation - An innovative mode of transportation for the next decade which doesn't require petrol, environment-friendly and energy-saving with maximum safety for passenger. Recreational vehicle is acceptable.
* Bonus points for use of components available through 3DContentCentral ( http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/ ) vendors using 3DPartstream.NET.
Criteria
Designs are judged for originality, creativity, technical accuracy and broad use of SolidWorks.
--Submissions must include the entire SolidWorks database and high-resolution images for a design project completed in SolidWorks including all part, assembly, and drawing files (if relevant).
--If entering the images portion of the contest, you may submit up to three rendered images or screenshots showing various orientations of your design project. Images must be at least 300 DPI and approximately 2000 X 3000 pixels. The preferred formats are TIFF, BMP, EPS or JPEG.
--For SolidWorks Animator entries, AVI files should not exceed 5MB (compressed) in size. Quality, high-resolution photographs of entrants and finished products or prototypes are also welcome.
--Models, images, and text sent without completing the online form will not be eligible. Text portions of form must be in complete sentences and contain enough information to provide the basis for a clear, understandable 150-250 word summary of use of SolidWorks. If entry text is published, it will be edited for length, clarity, grammar, and punctuation.

--Use of components available through 3DContentCentral ( http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/ ) vendors using 3DPartstream.NET.

First Prize
Winner will receive a SolidWorks internship at Asia-Pacific office in Singapore,

Second Prize - Winner will receive HP PDA and Cash Prize of US$200
Third Prize - Winner will receive HP Digital Printer and Cash Prize of US$100
All finalists will be eligible for an internship with one of the engineering services sponsors in India.

CAD Professional Category

Contest Deadline : All entries must be received by August 15th, 2006.
If participation is endorsed by company, the first prize winner's company will receive a sponsorship of 2 tickets to SolidWorks World New Orleans in February 2007.
The results will be announced at SolidWorks World India 2006 in Bangalore on August 29th, 2006. All winners will be notified by email and post.
