Images 30: the Best of British Contemporary Illustration 2006

June 14, 2006  |  Levent OZLER

The Association of Illustrators (AOI) is proud to present Images 30 - the best of British contemporary illustration, the 30th anniversary of the AOI's annual illustration award and exhibition. The Images 30 exhibition unveils this year's winners of the leading jury-selected illustration competition in the UK, and showcases a selection of the best works entered.

The Images 30 exhibition will be on display at Studio 95, The Old Truman Brewery from 4 - 12 August 2006. The award winners will be announced at the Images 30 awards night on Thursday, 3 August 2006. A selection of around 70 works will tour the UK and to Oslo, Norway.

Images 30 shows the amazing variety of contemporary illustration commissioned in the UK by companies such as Virgin, Microsoft, The Guardian, New Scientist and Penguin. The exhibition highlights the work of illustrators, who have made significant contributions to the industry during the last year. The exhibition features around 200 original artworks by established and new talents of British Illustration, including Jonny Hannah, David Hughes, Ian Pollock, Matthew Richardson and Russell Cobb.

The exhibited works have been selected by a panel of internationally acclaimed judges. This year's panel consists of highly regarded commissioners of illustration, well-known illustrators and cultural commentators, including John Rushworth, Partner of Pentagram Design Ltd, Roanne Bell, freelance design writer and editor, Patrick Coyne, Editor and Designer for Communication Arts Magazine and high profile illustrators Paul Davis, Steven Appleby and Sara Fanelli.

Launched in 1976, this year's exhibition marks 30 years of AOI activity to promote the best of contemporary British illustration. For 30 years Images has been endorsing illustration and has provided a showcase for the fantastic talent and award winning contemporary illustration produced in the UK.

The Images 30 exhibition will be accompanied by an events programme including talks and seminars.

The Association of Illustrators was established in 1973 to promote contemporary illustration, advance and protect illustrators' rights and encourage professional standards. It has successfully increased the standing of illustration as a profession and improved commercial and ethical conditions of employment.
