Umbrella Inside Out TreeHugger Design Competition

Umbrella Inside Out: TreeHugger Design Competition

June 23, 2006  |  Levent OZLER

Umbrella Inside Out is the first ever TreeHugger design competition, in collaboration with I.D. Magazine!

Of the 33 million umbrellas sold every year in the U.S. alone, hundreds of thousands break down and are abandoned, and the non-biodegradable refuse ends up in landfills.

This competition invites submitters to devise creative approaches to the problem (1) by designing an innovative umbrella with a Cradle to Cradle sensibility, or (2) by designing a women's couture garment from efficiently collected old or discarded umbrellas.

Both competitions are open to anyone in the world, except employees of TreeHugger, I.D. magazine, The Sustainable Style Foundation, Earth Pledge, The Ethical Fashion Show, additional sponsors, and their families.

For both competitions, the submission deadline is September 1, 2006.

Design a New Umbrella: Finalists will be published in the December 2006 issue of I.D. magazine and will be posted on treehugger website.
