Metropolis Celebrates 25 Years with an Exhibit of Its Most Notable Covers
August 9, 2006 | Levent OZLER
Metropolis, America's first magazine to connect culture with all aspects of design, celebrated its twenty-five years in print. In honor of the anniversary over thirty of the magazine's most renowned covers will be on display at the Steelcase lobby at 4 Columbus Circle in New York.
The exhibition of award-winning covers, curated and designed by Metropolis Creative Director, Criswell Lappin, includes a printed take-away of an interview with Horace Havemeyer III, the founder and publisher of Metropolis reflecting on the twenty-five year history of the publication.
"This exhibit provides a great visual reference to what Metropolis is. Looking at the covers, you can observe the various graphic expressions and the evolution from analog to digital, showing the connections between culture and design," says Criswell Lappin. "Each month in our covers, we try to reflect the new ways we tell stories."
"Steelcase is pleased to showcase the work of architects and designers and the institutions that support the design community," says Jeannie Bochette, Workplace Consultant at Steelcase. "We want to congratulate Metropolis on their 25th year and we thank the magazine for partnering with us to host this exhibition."
"25 Years of Metropolis" will be on view at the Steelcase lobby at 4 Columbus Circle (Eighth Avenue & 58th Street) in New York from July 25th - September 30th, 2006. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
Metropolis magazine, with its journalistic and critical viewpoints, has become a trusted resource for thought-provoking information for the design community, as well as for design clients. From project collaborations to technological advances to accessibility and sustainability (both social and environmental), Metropolis continues to be the primary source for the latest design news and innovative ideas in its 25th year.
