Phil Corse of Herbst LaZar Bell (HLB) recently gave a presentation on China Sourcing to the Industrial Designer's Society of America-Chicago chapter at the IIT Institute of Design.
Specifically, the presentation illustrates a single-gate process that begins with extensive user research and culminates with an engineered product platform.

Mr. Corse is a Senior Vice President, Marketing Consulting Services for HLB, a product design consultancy.
Clients have included Hewlett Packard, Samsung, Motorola, Microsoft, Kraft, 3M, Abbott, and Fortune Brands.
He is also CEO of Connectables, LLC, a China sourcing and trading company, as well as an adjunct associate professor of marketing at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwerstern University.
He has had a range of experiences sourcing products and entering markets in Asia for the past 25 years.
His marketing consulting practice specializes in product development and primary user research.
