The METROPOLIS View: 25 Years Through the Lens at Design Miami
November 28, 2006 | Levent OZLER
Metropolis magazine announces The Metropolis View: 25 Years Through the Lens, a traveling exhibit on display in the Miami Design District, December 7-10, 2006.
Curated and designed by Metropolis creative director Criswell Lappin, the exhibition features the work of 25 award-winning photographers whose striking images have played a large part in the magazine's success and global perspective. Each photographer will showcase an image of his or her favorite metropolis, resulting in an exhibition of cityscapes from the skyscrapers of Hong Kong to the politically-divided streets of Belfast, from the interior spirals of New York City's Guggenheim Museum to a puzzling upside-down shop in Milan. "This exhibition provides a great visual reference to what Metropolis is about-going beyond traditional architecture photographs that appear in trade or shelter magazines," Lappin says. "We count on our photographers to not only capture aesthetically pleasing forms, but to show how buildings and cities function."
The exhibit will include the work of Robert Polidori, Sylvia Plachy, Paul Warchol, Sean Hemmerle, Kristine Larsen, Lara Swimmer, Todd Hido, David Allee, Julius Shulman, Jimmy Cohrssen, Timothy Hursley, and Tony Law; their photographs also appeared in the 25th Anniversary issue of Metropolis in April. "Over those 25 years, we've seen the public awareness of design grow from almost insignificant to fundamental," says Susan S. Szenasy, the magazine's editor in chief for the past 20 years. She adds: "Our photographers have made a major contribution toward our ability to present the designed environment from a humanist point of view-in dramatic overviews as well as in close-up details and every scale in between. We are thrilled to share our success with them at the upcoming show."
The METROPOLIS View: 25 Years Through the Lens will be shown at The Buena Vista Building, Suite 222, 180 NE 39th Street, Miami, from December 7-10, 2006. Gallery hours are Thursday, December 7, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Friday, December 8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.; and Sunday, December 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
