Twinkle Twinkle : New Light from the UKTwinkle Twinkle: new light from the UK is an exhibition of the best in current British lighting design.
Commissioned and curated by the British Council, the exhibition features new work by 27 of Britain's design luminaries, from famous names like Ron Arad and Tom Dixon, rising stars like Tord Boontje and Paul Cocksedge and newer names Jessica Shaw and Committee.
We have seen something of a renaissance in lighting design over the past few years with British creativity in materials and technologies wll to the fore.
Also in evidence is a great deal of wit, poetry and downright beauty.
Naturally chandeliers are a big hit. includes two pieces from crystal manufacturer Swarovski's 2004 Crystal Palace collection, Barber Osgerby's technical masterpiece "Nove" and Ron Arad's "Lolita", a huge crystal spiral which receives and displays cellphone SMS messages from visitors throughout the exhibition.
Equally stunning are Claire Norcross' folded paper "Aperture", Paul Cocksedge's haunting "Bombay Sapphire" light and Jessica Shaw's delicate and arresting "Cloud", Benjamin Perry's charming "light in a box", Ed Carpenter's glowing candy-coloured "Pigeons", Hector Serrano's floating table lamps "Waterproof" and Julia Lohman's "Ruminant Blooms" lovingly created from sheep's stomachs.
