2004 Taiwan International Design CompetitionThe Taiwan Design Center invites entries for the 2004 Taiwan International Design Competition under the theme "Balance".
With a new theme this year, the competition presents a special challenge for entrants. The connotation of "Balance" includes weight, color, size, and time. The Chinese character for "Balance" connotes weighing, measuring, and balancing. Aesthetically it means the establishment of harmony through color and composition. Psychologically it means balancing a person's psyche and body to ensure wholeness. Physically it means personal fitness through exercise.
Because of its comprehensive nature, balance is an essential element of design.
Far Eastern cultures are accustomed to balancing such opposites as symmetry and asymmetry. One achieves a sense of balance among a deluge of products and information by choosing between symmetry and asymmetry. One may also reject the status quo and establish a new equilibrium between the real and abstract worlds.
By contemplating the issue of "Balance," designers can come up with new ideas in order to reach a balance among human being, their lifestyle and the natural environment
