Design Museum: The E-Type - Story of a British Sports CarFrom the moment it was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the E-type Jaguar was a sensation. Speedy and stylish with long low lines and a voluptuous racing bonnet, it captured the glamour and dynamism of 1960s Britain as the chosen car of the Beatle George Harrison and footballer George Best.
Featuring vintage cars and memorabilia, this exhibition will trace the evolution of the E-type's design by Jaguar's aerodynamicist designer Malcolm Sayer and chief engeineer William Heynes under Jaguar's chairman Sir William Lyons.
Sayer refined the sinuous silhouette of 1950s Jaguar racing cars into a sculptural form that achieved a top speed of 150 miles per hour and influences Jaguar design today. Until 28 November 2004.
