DMI 3rd Anthology Examines Design Thinking

Design thinking is a hot topic for future business success: it is about creating better things, while traditional analytic thinking is about choosing between things.

Co-published by DMI and Allworth Press, Design Thinking: Integrating Innovation, Customer Experience, and Brand Value, confirms that design, as a process and as an output, has greater opportunity to add value to the bottom line than any other business function.

Following the success of Building Design Strategy and Corporate Creativity, Design Thinking draws from the pages of the Design Management Review and explores point-of-views, techniques, and methods, as well as hands-on case studies from international thought leaders, including Marty Neumeier, Marc Gobe, Jesse James Garret, and Dave Norton.

The book is organized into three sections that focus on using design for innovation and brand building; the emerging role of service design; and designing meaningful customer experiences.

"This collection of work from some of the design industry's top thought leaders will further stimulate valuable discussion on how, through collaborative and innovative thinking, we can design a better future for all societies and business," commented Stefano Marzano, CEO & chief creative director of Philips Design.

Stuart Karten Design Celebrates 25 Years of Connecting Creativity

Stuart Karten Design announced its 25th anniversary with the launch of an online retrospective celebrating the people and events that have shaped the firm.

In 1984, Stuart Karten, a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, left Gould Medical to set up an industrial design office in his Malibu apartment.

Since then, SKD has grown to become a strategic partner to leading companies in the healthcare, consumer electronics and housewares industries, known for its award-winning designs that excite users and build corporate brands.

From its studio in Marina Del Rey-a location infused with the creative combustion of nearby Venice Beach-SKD remains deeply focused on strategic product development.

"We've succeeded by staying focused on a single guiding principle creativity," says Karten, who leads SKD's staff of 25 designers, researchers and engineers.

"Our process of 'connecting creativity and commerce' involves getting into people's minds and finding hot points that get them excited.

The empathy, imagination and open-minded exploration that define our design process are at the heart of the innovation that companies seek to differentiate their products."

The Future of Integrated Health Care

The Future of Integrated Health Care

The future of Health Care is a subject that has been under intense speculation and debate in recent times across different forums.

For the first time ever, Ergonomidesign have made it possible to actually experience the future of Health Care.

Following the launch at the Medica / Compamed trade fair in Germany, Nov. 18-20, Ergonomidesign will present and demonstrate a future application that brings together 40 years of design experience in the Life Science industry.

Combining a fully functioning prototype with a well resolved service-ecosystem, Ergonomidesign will demonstrate "The Future of Integrated Health Care".

The application - "Helping Hands" (a Natural User Interface developed on a MS Surface table) enables an experience of how we will manage our health in the future.

The concept combines the benefits of ubiquitous computing with a merger of Health Care services with Internet service providers.

This merger gives rise to an exciting "ecosystem", one that will bring cure to our doorstep or literally to the palm of our hand.

Much like the mobile "app-world", pharmacies would be able to sell a variety of Health Care devices containing embedded software that synchronizes with relevant devices and our body automatically.

By the year 2015, vast amounts of personal data will constantly be uploaded in real-time to the "Cloud" - for others to use, share and benefit from.
