British Design Innovation (BDI), the influential trade body representing some of the best product design companies in the world, has called on Regional Development Associations (RDAs), Research Councils, Business Links and other government agencies to "put Britain first" by utilising their members' experience and expertise in publicly-funded design projects throughout the country.

As a positive first step in their call to action, BDI is proposing the creation of formal design and innovation partnerships between top-class private sector design companies and higher education institutions (HEIs).

Per Fare Un Albero The Milan Municipality and Fiat for the Milanese Summer

Per Fare Un Albero: The Milan Municipality and Fiat for the Milanese Summer

Until September 30th, the street par excellence of Milan's fashion hub will host the initiative "Per fare un albero" ("To make a tree"), the result of an idea of the Municipality of Milan - Department for Design, Events and Fashion in collaboration with Fiat Automobiles.

Twenty fibreglass structures in the shape of the Fiat 500C, created by the designer Fabio Novembre in a 1:1 scale, containing trees of different shapes and sizes will, in fact, be positioned in via Montenapoleone to colour and make the summer more liveable in the Lombardy capital.

"Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Milan and Fiat, and the creativity of Fabio Novembre - as Alderman Giovanni Terzi commented - the Milanese street par excellence, known throughout the world as a premiere fashion hub, will, from today onwards, become the image of an open city even in August.

A public area where design, productivity and entrepreneurial commitment, will join forces to guarantee a service to everyone".

After via Montenapoleone, the unique creations of "Per fare un albero" will be transferred to other areas in the city, in order to keep it alive during the remaining months of the year.
