The Meatpacking District (MPDI) promises to be the crown jewel of New York City's Design Week 2008.
A landmark location for exhibitions, product launches, panel discussions, and cocktail receptions, the MPDI will welcome design professionals and aficionados alike to more than one hundred of the city's most exciting venues during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) May 19-22, 2008.
IDSA.NYC announced Equilateral 08:01, the first in a series of collaborative events with internationally renowned fashion label RUBIN CHAPELLE and lighting expert J. F. Ahlin.
Opening on May 18th, 2008, RUBIN CHAPELLE will feature a one-of-a-kind gallery environment where three creative forces-product design, fashion, and lighting- intersect, reflecting the Meatpacking District's multi-disciplinary allure.
Sonja Rubin affirms, "We have done numerous art exhibitions in our Meat packing district store.
We love the energy around the ICFF and want to celebrate that."
No fewer than nine of IDSA.NYC's brightest designers will be highlighted in the exhibit.
Their work will be on display at RUBIN CHAPELLE, and also on the showroom floor at ICFF.

It was more a case of Bloom Bloom than Broom Broom in Milan yesterday when Italian police grounded a fleet of floral Fiats on their way to the design centre of Milan for the opening day of Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the biggest event on the international design calendar.
The cars, each of which had been decorated with a floral livery created by one of five designers, were scheduled to drive around the Zona Tortona, promoting the beauty of flowers to the audience of design journalists that frequent the Zona on Press Day.
However, en route, they were flagged down by police, and deemed unsafe to negotiate the equally hazardous Milanese traffic.
The cars were given a police escort with motorbike outriders who stopped traffic in order to let the floral convoy through to the Via Tortona, where it has been carefully replanted in front of the Hotel NHow.

Unusual synergies between the Morfeus company of Pesaro and Pininfarina Extra have created "FluxAir", the innovative "rest system", which will have its world preview at the Milan Furniture Fair from April 16 to 21.
With the Morfeus "FluxAir", Pininfarina revolutionises the classic format of bedding products, inaugurating a new approach to "sleeping systems" and to the bed, which is no longer an object to hide, but an active system with strong design elements.
The FluxAir design concept is based on studies regarding the ergonomics of the body at rest, heat exchange and the elimination of humidity during the different phases of sleep.

For the first time, Luxe Pack New York, the luxury packaging trade exhibition, will expand to include The Altman Building, which adjoins with the Metropolitan Pavilion where the event has been held since its launch in 2003.
The show will also host a fuller seminar schedule as well, including a key note by Dr. G. Clotaire Rapaille.
The event will be held May 21-22, 2008, at the venues on West 18th Street.
"We are delighted that Luxe Pack New York's popularity requires our expansion into the adjoining Altman Building," said Nathalie Grosdidier, Executive Director, Luxe Pack New York.
"Our goal is to maintain Luxe Pack New York's spirit of intimacy, while accommodating the luxury manufacturers who wish to participate and allowing the show to evolve.
We've also worked to develop a more sophisticated and full content program for the event, including our key note presentation, seminars and panel discussions, and interactive displays."
The Altman Building adds 13,200 square-feet, which will accommodate additional exhibitors as well as the show entrance (at 135 West 18th Street between 6th & 7th Avenues).
The combined space of The Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavilion totals 40,000 square-feet and this year, approximately 110 exhibitors will participate.

The second Vienna Design Week from 2 to 12 October 2008 will concentrate all the dynamic variety of contemporary Austrian design under a single roof.
It represents a self-confident Austrian-Viennese entry to the international calendar of festivals and fairs.
Under the label Vienna Design Week a variety of important institutions and protagonists as well as partners from the world of business come together.
Creative designers will link with the producers of design objects.
The Vienna Design Week held annually hone the perception of design, illustrate different approaches and, above all, stimulate a delight in design.
