![]() The Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2009 to Hannu KahonenIndustrial designer, Artist Professor Hannu Kahonen (born 1948) has been chosen to receive the Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2009.Hannu Kahonen graduated in 1971 from the University of Art and Design Helsinki. He is a versatile expert in design, whose perspective ranges from the practical design work to national design policy. He has helped to develop the field through his work in national and international positions of trust. Hannu Kahonen has also written about design and has taught design at the university level. "Design is no longer the creation and development of new models. Instead, it has become a notable competitive factor. At present it is difficult to find any significant innovations with reference to old concepts. Design today must take note of the environmental issues - the requirements of sustainable design and changing needs of people and a population that is ageing. Pure materials, ecological and service design solutions will stay important issues in the future", tells Hannu Kahonen. Now awarded for the 18th time, the Kaj Franck Design Prize has achieved unreserved popularity among design professionals, the media and the public. event ends Nov 29, 2009 Finland view on map more design events more The Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2009 to Hannu Kahonen design directory Design Forum Finland > Design Organizations added by Levent OZLER |
![]() Luebkeman Curates Life at 1 Planet for a Sustainable FutureAt the Icsid World Design Congress in Singapore, Chris Luebkeman, Arup Group Director for Foresight and Innovation will unveil what people around the world imagine our lives will be like in the next 40 years. With the world's population doubling in the past 50 years, Chris feels that it is time that we put a stop to the overconsumption of our resources and start living within the limits of our planet. In association with Icsid and DesignSingapore Council, Chris has initiated a studio called "Life @ 1 Planet" to collect ideas on how life would be if we decide to follow a consumption path that is sustainable within what our planet offers us. The studio is open to everyone and aims to generate user-centric designs by encouraging the participants to create a "character" that they then take forward a decade at a time to year 2050. The participants are guided by a series of exercises through the various stages of the future, which will result in a collective version of the events that would lead up to our ideal "Life @ 1 Planet". more www.the... ![]() Yu-Ying Wu Designs Tofu-shaped Breathing ChairA "breathing chair" designed by Yu-Ying Wu, a graduate from the Department of Industrial Design at the Taiwan-based Tatung University, was submitted to the international "red dot design award" design competition and won the home furniture design concept award.Wu is scheduled to receive the award next month in Singapore. The "breathing chair" looks like a piece of white, square tofu. Wu said that the chair is made of high-density foam plastic that is 100 percent environmentally friendly. There is a "trick" behind the design of various sizes of holes in the chair - based on professional calculation of the spatial structure, the tofu-shaped chair, coated with three layers of foamed plastic, can "automatically adjust" according to the weight and posture of the person sitting on it. more www.cct...
