 Norra Norr Creates Bespoke Headphones for WeSCIn an era where fashion companies are stepping beyond their traditional domain into the world of industrial design, Swedish street fashion company WeSC has brought in Norra Norr to develop a range of bespoke headphones, Maraca and Pick-up, which have already hit the stores around the world.Rooted deeply within snowboarding and skateboarding culture, WeSC is known best known for its clothing, but the street fashion brand has also firmly established itself as a purveyor of mobile sound. No longer are headphones just about high-quality electronics; they have become highly sought-after fashion accessories. Whereas WeSC's previous designer collaborations have mainly focused on customizing colors and patterns for standard off- the-shelf models, Norra Norr was commissioned to design and develop custom headphones exclusive to WeSC. In creating Maraca and Pick-up, the Stockholm-based industrial design consultancy drew on their experience in designing other fashion accessories, such as classic watches and wearable sporting equipment, for clients such as POC and Yniq. Maraca was inspired by old school Reggae and Hip Hop deejays who wore big headphones.  The Dieline AwardsThe Dieline, the world's leading package design website, launched the Dieline Awards, an international design competition recognizing the world's best package design.The awards will be judged by a highly esteemed panel of 10 industry experts, and awarded based on quality of design. Debbie Millman, President of the AIGA and President of Design at Sterling Brands, will be the chairman of the judges. The top 10 winners and best of show winner will recieve a prize package worth over $4500. A showcase of all award winning packaging designs will be opened at the show shortly after the winners are announced, and all winners will be featured in detail on The Dieline.  Andrew Ritchie Wins Prince Philip Designers Prize in Its 50th Anniversary YearThe designer of the iconic Brompton folding bicycle, Andrew Ritchie, has been named the winner of the 2009 Prince Philip Designers Prize, awarded annually to recognize a lifetime contribution to design.The announcement was made by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at a reception celebrating 50 years of British design genius this evening, Thursday 15th October, at Buckingham Palace. Ritchie's ingenious folding design has won him a loyal following, with owners pointing to the Brompton's lightness, portability, smoothness of ride, and the sense of freedom it bestows. An engineer by profession, Ritchie has spent 21 years perfecting the Brompton, which is manufactured in the UK and sells throughout the world. "In this special year we celebrate 50 years of innovation, the design evangelism of The Duke of Edinburgh and the value of the designer in our society," commented David Kester, Chief Executive of the Design Council.  Good Design Awards 2009 ResultsJapan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO) announced the results of the 2009 Good Design Awards on October 1.Entries for this year opened on April 22 and received 2,952 applications. As a result of first and second screening, 1034 items received Good Design Awards - including the Good Design Award Best 15 and other special awards. Recipients of the Good Design Award Best 15 are selected as candidates for the Good Design Grand Award. The winner of this year's Good Design Grand Award will be selected from among those 15, at the Awards Ceremony to be held on November 6. more www.g-m...
