 Ed Welburn: GM Job Cuts Mean Fewer ProductsWhen Ed Welburn does the math, he knows he won't be able to design as many cars and trucks for General Motors Corp. after the big white-collar payroll cuts come by the start of May.Fewer designers means fewer products.  Workshops Focus on Entrepreneurship and Intellectual PropertySyracuse University is sponsoring a series of workshops that focus on teaching entrepreneurs how to protect their intellectual property assets.The "Innovation to Market Workshop Series" is free and open to the public. The next workshop will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Room 347 of SU's Hinds Hall. This workshop will focus on the intellectual property policy and the Office of Technology Transfer and Industrial Development at Syracuse University. The series is sponsored by SU's Enitiative program and the university's Office of Technology Transfer and Industrial Design. The Enitiative program awards grants to individuals and organizations launching entrepreneurial ventures that connect college campuses with the surrounding communities.  A New Bus for London ExhibitionThe 27 winning designs and 50 other noteworthy entries from Mayor of London Boris Johnson's New Bus for London competition are now on display in an exhibition at London Transport Museum until 29 March 2009.Among the entries on display will be the winning collaborative design by Aston Martin/Foster + Partners, which was lauded for its "overall styling package" combing traditional Routemaster features with modern technology. The exhibition will also include the meticulously rendered technical designs from Capoco Design (which has 30 years' experience in the bus industry) and the team of Hector Serrano, Minarro Garcia and Javier Estaban, who have designed for Pininfarina, Renault and Ford. Many of the designs on display consider pressing transportation issues such as accessibility and emissions reduction.
