Label Call for Papers 7th International Design Emotions Conference

Call for Papers: 7th International Design & Emotions Conference

The International Conference on Design & Emotion is a forum held every other year where practitioners, researchers and industry leaders meet and exchange knowledge and insights concerning the cross-disciplinary field of design and emotion.

The conference will offer workshops, research paper presentations, design case presentations, and poster presentations.

"Since this conference was first established in 1999, what many predicted then came to be.

Technologies are now able to achieve emotional qualities and design examples using these technologies abound.

While we have made significant progress in research and practice relevant to emotional factors in design, many fundamental questions remain unanswered and new issues have been raised as we experience major changes in technological, social, cultural and economic environments.

We are at the stage for another leap forward in the development of new understanding and vision of emotional factors in design through our critical reflection, innovative exploration and collaborative endeavor.

This conference calls for your contribution to this exciting international forum of research and practice representing academic, professional and business communities."

The International Design & Emotion Conference invites practitioners and researchers to submit research papers and design cases.

Beyond Design Thinking Smart Design Offers Fresh Ideas at Barcelona Design Week

Beyond Design Thinking: Smart Design Offers Fresh Ideas at Barcelona Design Week

Matt Barthelemy, Vice President at Smart Design, will join others from IDEO, Philips Design, and Design Connect in a spirited conversation about the concept of design thinking and its role in business today.

The conference panel, titled, "Design Thinking: a new resource for meeting present and future challenges," is part of Barcelona Design Week (BDW) taking place at the Barcelona Design Center on October 26th at 9:30 AM.

Barthelemy explains Smart Design's position in the context of its 30-year history of creating success in the marketplace.

"We agree with the concepts behind the term 'design thinking' -- it's what we do every day.

But we also understand the real-world constraints on companies and how what we do must also include elements of 'business thinking' - without it, ideas cannot become the solutions that make a positive difference for people, and the bottom line."

"Ideally, we help take the risk out of the innovation process by uncovering design-actionable insights and smart choices that will lead to market successes.

Understanding people and their essential needs and desires is the key to that reduction in risk.

We also investigate underlying issues that can lead to even more success in the market, like uncovering the brand and economic benefits of sustainable solutions, or exposing accidental gender bias that alienates half of potential audiences."

The Philadelphia Museum of Art Presents Works by Designer Marcel Wanders

The Philadelphia Museum of Art Presents Works by Designer Marcel Wanders

The Philadelphia Museum of Art will present a multimedia exhibition of works by Marcel Wanders, whose unique fusion of technology, artistry, and wit have established him as a leading figure in international design.

Created specifically for the Museum, the installation will showcase the designer's favorite projects over the last 20 years, including prototypes, personal editions, and objects never before exhibited.

Trained in The Netherlands as an industrial designer, Wanders' work ranges from manufactured products and design-art to architecture and interior design.

Using shifting video images, light, and sound, Marcel Wanders: Daydreams will dramatize the evolution of Wanders' design process and philosophy with visual and aural storytelling.

Several films will demonstrate how Wanders' works are interrelated, the result of an exuberantly creative design mind in a multidisciplinary practice.

A selection of what Wanders considers his most essential works will be on view, among them: "Knotted Chair," "Bell Big Ben Bianco," "Calvin," "Lucky One," "Extra Big Shadow Floor Lamp," "Moosehead," "Crochet Chair," "New Antiques Chair," and "Blow Lamp."

In recognition of his innovative contributions to contemporary design, Wanders will receive Collab's Design Excellence Award on November 21 and give an illustrated lecture about his work in the Museum's Main Building Van Pelt Auditorium.

The bottles are an exclusive custom shape and were molded and decorated by M&H who worked in partnership with Asia Dispensing to produce the mold cap and Wolff Olins who created the graphics.
