Label Shoebox Qut Students Create Street-smart Furniture From Recycled Rubbish Bins

Shoebox: Qut Students Create Street-smart Furniture From Recycled Rubbish Bins

When is a yellow Brisbane City Council bus stop bin not a bin?

When it has been turned into a winning piece of furniture by interior design students from Queensland University of Technology.

Style-astute Brisbane residents could be among the first to own a trendy seating and storage module created by up-and-coming designers after their work was chosen by local furniture manufactures Blok Furniture for production.

A team of four final-year interior design students from QUT designed Shoebox, a moveable furniture module that combines seating with storage for shoe shops.

Their design, along with another QUT student furniture design, was chosen from recent InDesign exhibitions in Brisbane to be exhibited at a furniture industry competition in Perth.

D-Link DCS-3415 Network Camera Receives International Forum Product Design Award for 2009

D-Link announced that the company received the prestigious iF (International Forum) Product Design Award for its DCS-3415 network camera.

The D-Link DCS-3415 is a high-end surveillance camera designed for the deployment in professional environments that require surveillance and security.

Every year, the International Forum Design organization receives an average of 2,000 entries from countries all over the world.

This year, the DCS-3415 was selected among a pool of 2,808 entries submitted by 1025 contestants from 39 countries.

"We are very pleased to have received such a prestigious award from the International Design Forum," says Harrison Albert, Regional Sales Director at D-Link Middle East.

Mazda Wins LA Auto Show Design Award

Mazda Wins LA Auto Show Design Award

Mazda has won the Design Challenge "Motor Sports 2025" at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show, which opened earlier this week.

Nine of southern California's automobile design studios were asked to give their vision of how a sports car might look 17 years from now - in California's zero-emissions society - and Mazda North American Operation (MNAO) design team's concept car, Mazda KAAN, was chosen the winner.

Judges selected the Mazda concept for how well it integrates innovative technology into the design, and for its unique styling.

It is an electric race car concept that uses a patented electronic tyre system to reach speeds of up to 400 km/h, while producing no harmful emissions.

It is designed to drive on a race track resurfaced with a sub-level, electro-conductive polymer that powers electric cars.

Its exterior design was inspired by electric fields and textures seen in nature, particularly those in a lightning bolt.

It is uniquely designed around powerful electric wheels, while the cockpit acts as a capsule to safely house the driver.

China Partly Blames Foreign Designs For Unsafe Toys

China Partly Blames Foreign Designs For Unsafe Toys

China on Tuesday laid part of the blame for poor product safety on foreign companies whose designs were flawed, as millions of parents around the world prepared to buy Chinese-made toys for Christmas.

In a defiant response to a reporter's question on toy safety, foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said China took product safety seriously but toy producers in the country should also be careful of foreign-made designs.

"Some Chinese toy producers produce their products according to the designs of their foreign clients and then it turns out that there are problems with the designs of these products," Qin said.

"Those designs were produced by the foreign side so here we remind our Chinese producers to not only pay attention to production, but also be careful with the designs by the foreign parties."
