Christopher Pearson: Samsonite Appoints New Global Creative Director

Samsonite has hired British designer Christopher Pearson its new global creative director, effective from September.

Pearson has worked with brands such as Hermes, Dunhill, Louis Vuitton and Yves St Laurent.

Pearson will design collections under the Samsonite Black Label, Samsonite and American Tourister brands and be based in London.

Bang & Olufsen in Partnership with Mercedes-AMG

Bang & Olufsen, the worldwide provider of exclusive, high quality audio and video products, has signed an agreement with Germany's Mercedes-AMG, the performance division of Mercedes-Benz Cars, for a unique sound system.

"Our new partnership with Mercedes-AMG is hugely important to us," says Karl Kristian Hvidt Nielsen, Bang & Olufsen President & CEO.

"The agreement enables Bang & Olufsen to further utilize the expertise and processes we have built up in order to meet the requirements of the automotive industry," says Karl Kristian Hvidt Nielsen.

"And, of course, Mercedes-AMG is also an interesting partner for Bang & Olufsen because the cars are sold across the world."

IKEA Uses Mobile Showroom to Deliver 2009 Catalogs

In order to help roll out the 2009 issue of their popular idea book to eager followers, IKEA is taking a unique approach to the traditional delivery system: they're getting help by using a mobile billboard and 3D showroom vehicle from GoMobile Advertising, an experiential marketing company.

The truck will travel around the greater Puget Sound area, as well as make appearances at local fairs, festivals, and parades, passing out approximately 1 million copies of the IKEA catalogs for the third straight year.

"This year, you'll find 374 pages that provide ideas, inspiration, and solutions to everyone's home furnishing needs.

The theme for our 2009 IKEA catalog is 'Home is the most important place in the world'.

It will showcase our unique point of view - the home is made for living.

You will find that we are focusing on three main areas of the home - the kitchen, the bedroom, and living room." says IKEA Store Manager, Laurie Helm.

"We're always excited this time of year to show our customers all of our new products at our new lower prices."

The free-of-charge catalog will be released July 29th in more than 27 languages and shipped to over 35 countries around the world.

This book will break down the process of design in a much more comprehensive way than most books on the subject, which just analyze the final designs.

Universal Design Award 09

Universal design GmbH, in partnership with iF International Forum Design GmbH, announces the universal design award 2009.

Now in its second year, the universal design award acts as a communication tool to target businesses, researchers and the political community.

The competition is meant to not only sensitise the public to the topic of universal design, but to invite the public to actively participate in deciding which entries promise the greatest possible benefit for their target audience.

The competition is open to product designers, graphic designers, manufacturers, service providers and service designers, architects, and interior designers.

Designs must demonstrate that they are accessible, flexible, intuitive, safe, affordable and sustainable.

Registration deadline is December 15, 2008.
