Label UK Young Design Entrepreneur Award

UK Young Design Entrepreneur Award

The UK Young Design Entrepreneur Award is the newest award in the British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur programme.

Created by the British Council in partnership with the Cultural Leadership Foundation, the award recognises the potential of an individual, aged between 25 and 35, working within the design industry, to be a future leader of the sector in the UK, and indeed internationally.

The winner of the award and two runners-up will visit India in early 2009, to find out about India's design industry, meet leading industry figures, and learn, first hand, about the dynamics of the sector and how business is done there.

There are now nine international awards, for young creative entrepreneurs in the communications, design, fashion, interactive, music, performing arts, publishing, screen and visual arts sectors.

The breadth of these awards ensures that all of the creative industries are covered by this programme.

UKYDE is one of nine awards for young creative entrepreneurs that are being developed by the British Council with support from NESTA, the Cultural Leadership Programme, trade associations and professional bodies within the creative sector.

The Green Dot Awards

The Green Dot Awards

The Green Dot Awards strive to reward and promote forward-thinking businesses that create environmentally friendly products or services, and to recognize revolutionary business plans and proposals.

All forward-thinking "green" businesses should have the opportunity to be recognized; regardless of commercial success, public attention, or connections.

GDA aims to bridge the gap between truly innovative businesses that practice excellence in environmental responsibility and international consumers and media.

GDA's submissions are judged by a board of experts in the field, writers, editors, consumers and other luminaries.

Winners receive international publicity and their full submissions published in the annual book, distributed to bookstores and media throughout the world, assuring maximum exposure.

In addition, the Concept Category winner receives a cash prize of $10,000 US Dollars.

Extraordinary Every Day Travel Contest by Alcantara Lab

Extraordinary, Every Day Travel Contest by Alcantara Lab

The Extraordinary, Every Day Travel Contest inspired by "contemporary nomadism" is open to fashion designers, architects, designers and creative professionals of any nationality and age.

Participants are invited to design extraordinary objects, elements and accessories that can be used, transported, utilized during those everyday activities which take place on a journey.

It must be an extraordinary object made from Alcantara materials that satisfies the four values that make Alcantara unique: a sensorial experience, aesthetics, functionality and exclusiveness.

There is a daily nomadism that affects everyone, consisting of traveling either long or short distances.

Every day, when moving through the space separating us from the environments in which we study, work or spend our free time, we feel the need to take with us objects that represent and improve the quality of our time.

Making each journey, however short, a unique experience.

Reflecting upon this nomadism concept, AlcantaraLAB decided to get in contact with creative people, designers and anyone else interested in trying out new things, asking them to make each journey as extraordinary as possible.

Because Alcantara has founded on "the extraordinary that becomes part of everyday life" its uniqueness, based on the coexistence of sensorial, aesthetic and functional values that are found in one material, and can be experienced by those who love enjoying deeply the products they use every day.

LG Unveiled New European Design Centre

LG Unveiled New European Design Centre

LG Electronics, a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, has announced the opening of its new European Design Centre in Covent Garden, London, UK.

The facilities were formally opened by HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, in a ceremony attended by leading members of local government and the UK's design community.

The Duke of York, who also opened LG's European headquarters in Slough, UK last year, attended in his role as the Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

The Duke of York stated: "The UK has long proven itself to be a strong, positive environment for the creative industries, as well as a European base for many multi-national businesses.

We are seeing growing investment by companies such as LG in design facilities here and they are very welcome.

LG could have chosen any of several global cities for this centre.

That they chose London is tremendous news for the UK and testament to the world-class business environment we're creating here."

The purpose of LG's new Design Centre is to create European designs based on European consumers' requirements.

The designers will also be called upon to adapt products that will appeal to the European market, but which have been developed elsewhere.
