KOR ONE: Hydration Vessel

Our love of bottled water has placed our health and our environment at risk.

KOR WATER and world-recognized industrial design firm RKS have combined efforts to create an innovative, empowering, and sustainable personal hydration solution.

For life, there must be water. When we talk about Earth survival, it's not just about being "green"... it's about preserving and caring for the blue - the waters of our world upon which the Blue Planet thrives.

Though most of us are lucky enough to have fresh water as close as the nearest tap, our passion for bottled water has had a heavy impact on our environment.

Water expert Peter Gleick suggests that, to understand the hidden energy costs associated with packaging, processing, and transporting bottled water, we imagine "filling up a quarter of every bottle with oil." To make matters worse, only one in five of these bottles is recycled.

And it's not just landfills that these discarded bottles are clogging up.

In 2007, marine biologists discovered the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch," a massive, continent-sized flotilla of plastic garbage between San Francisco and Hawaii.

The KOR ONE Hydration Vessel is a response to the need for a healthy, sustainable, and environmentally sound way to stay hydrated.

Not intended for a trek to the Outback or the Himalayas, the KOR ONE was designed to fit our everyday lives - to be equally at home on an executive's desk, in a yoga studio, and at your side throughout the day.

The Winners of Graalglass: Eighth International Design Contest Trieste Contemporanea

On the 12th and 13th June, in the CEI - Central European Initiative General Secretariat seat, after the greetings of the Ambassador Pietro Ercole Ago, the international jury of "GRAALGLASS International Design Contest Trieste Contemporanea" selected the winners of the Eighth edition choosing the best original projects for a drinking vessel, that will be realized in glass, inspired by the symbols and tradition of the Holy Grail.

The competition, promoted by the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, was open to all the designers coming from the 18 countries of the Central European Initiative, Baltic States, Germany and Turkey and its aim was promoting the most original design expressions of Central European Countries.

The first prize "Gillo Dorfles" was given "for its innovation" to the project of the Roman Architect Stefano Suarez: the shape of a rigorous and geometric goblet is hollowed out in a block of class and is colored by the light filtering from the outside.

The prize CEI (3000 Euros), for the best designer coming from one of the CEI countries outside of the European Union, was given to the Serbian artist Vladimir Stankovic, who proposed a cone with a spiral inserted in a cubic base.

The prize BEBA (1000 Euros), for the youngest selected artist, was given to the young Turkish artist Aysenaz Toker (born in 1984) who designed an original teacup/goblet.

Seymourpowell Design for LG

Seymourpowell Design for LG

The first product designed by Seymourpowell for South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics to be released commercially comes out this month: the high-end, LCD HD television, the LG70.

"LCD (liquid crystal display) televisions have taken longer than plasma screens to function well at larger sizes, but are now fast becoming the more dominant of the two technologies", commented Seymourpowell design director David Fisher.

The TV, which launches this month in stores worldwide and is one of LG's "flagship products" for 2008, has a super-thin "teardrop" structure, finishing at a point at the base of the television, where it blends from opaque to translucent, seemingly disappearing into nothing, so that it has a floating appearance when poised on a stand.

The backlit LCD television, aimed predominantly at the European market, was based on the idea of "invisible sound", with no speakers to be seen.

The product, which responded to a brief to create a truly "eye-catching" product, celebrates instead the screen itself and uses a form of cutting-edge, flat-speaker technology to distribute sound evenly.
