Label CITIN Creative Industries Champion Announced

CITIN: Creative Industries Champion Announced

The UK's creative industries are set to be strengthened at the cutting edge of technology and innovation with today's announcement of a new Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) which will champion their interests with Government and the technology sector.

A KTN is a national network in a specific field of technology or business application, which brings together people from businesses, universities, research, finance and technology organisations in order to stimulate innovation through knowledge transfer and sharing of ideas.

Funded by the Technology Strategy Board and led by University of the Arts London, the Creative Industries Technology Innovation Network (CITIN) consortium includes the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Imperial College London, and Tiga, the trade association for games developers.

This partnership bristles with a wealth of expertise, networks, experience and passion that makes it uniquely suitable to implement this KTN.

CITIN aims to become a national and international centre of excellence, driving technology innovation across the creative industries.

CITIN will work with all sectors of the creative industries, from architecture to video games, from fashion to film, TV and new media.

It will clarify the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing technology landscape and bring together creative industry companies, technology providers and researchers to exploit this potential, drive innovation, and secure the UK's international competitiveness.

IDSA Members Visit Bayer MaterialScience Design Center

IDSA Members Visit Bayer MaterialScience Design Center

More than 80 members of the Industrial Designers Society of America toured the Bayer MaterialScience Design Center of Bayer's Color Compentency Center at its Newark, Ohio, plastics compounding facility.

The tour was offered to IDSA members in conjunction with the IDSA Mideast District Annual Conference held in Columbus, Ohio.

The BMS Design Center, which opened in June 2007, brings ideas utilizing BMS' LEDA compounded color technology to life.

LEDA compounded resin technology is one of five Fantasia color and special effect technologies - the industry's most complete, one-stop solution for color and special effects for plastic part design.

LEDA compounded color technology adds colorants and special effect additives right in the plastic pellet to yield molded-in colors and effects, including metallic, sparkle, shimmer, pearlescence and glow-in-the-dark.

The Design Center offers customers a hands-on experience and encourages them to be actively involved in the design process.

Customers work hand-in-hand with dedicated BMS personnel as they create precise color matches and select special effects to meet their product design needs within a matter of hours rather than days or weeks.

The tour offered the IDSA visitors a similar experience.

DBA Design Effectiveness Awards

DBA Design Effectiveness Awards

The DBA's annual Design Effectiveness Awards are both prestigious and authoritative, the only award scheme that uses commercial data as a key judging criteria.

Year after year, winning case studies demonstrate that successful projects require the integration of the design brief with business aims and objectives from the outset.

This sets the stage for a transparent and accountable relationship between client and designer that provides the best creative and commercial environment for success.

The case studies also serve to demonstrate the excellent value for money and return on investment that a coherent, well-thought-out and professionally executed design strategy can achieve.

In a crowded marketplace, there is no place for one hit wonders; good design and good business are a longterm relationship.
