 Honeywell and SAE International Expand Vehicle Design Competition to Students WorldwideHoneywell and SAE International have expanded their unique Honeywell/SAE Student Automotive Design Challenge (SADC) to include schools from eight countries and more than 400 students.This program, piloted last year, is designed to engage students, ages 11-14, in hands-on math and science training to enable students to actively discover how these subjects relate to their everyday lives, while uncovering potential career opportunities. The SADC program uses the A World In Motion curriculum, which was developed by the SAE Foundation and won the National Science Foundation's prestigious 2008 Public Service Award. The program integrates science, math, technology, social studies and language arts by assigning students to a mock corporation to research, design, test and build electric gear-driven toy cars. Students work in design teams of four to build a vehicle and write proposals, draw sketches, model designs and develop plans that meet the specific set of design requirements identified in market research.  Be(e) Diverse: Irish Bee House Awarded with 1st Prize of EESC Design ZeroNine CompetitionThe "Bee house" project, designed by James Ennis from Ireland, has been selected as the winner of the first European Award for a Sustainable Present competition by an international design panel on September 28, 2009.Selected out of more than 100 contributions, the exhibition, presentation of the winners, and a display of the 30 best projects will take place at the EESC on December 9, 2009 in the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. This project organised by the EESC is the first "green public procurement" project of a European institution.  Hyundai Pony Named Design IconThe Hyundai Pony is the most iconic example of industrial design made in Korea, a survey by monthly design magazine Design of 102 experts says.Design carried out the survey among designers and design professors to celebrate its 33rd anniversary, and Pony received 12.6 percent of the votes as the most iconic industrial design made in Korea in the last half-century. Designed by the famous Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1975, the Pony was praised for its sleek and modern design and is thought to have elevated the level of design of Korean industrial products to a higher level. more english...
