![]() Transform Your Design Business: Design Victoria Launches Grants and Assistance ResourceTransform Your Design Business is an online guide that equips Victorian designers with the know-how to successfully navigate the grants space and write strong grant applications. It seeks to ensure designers can take full advantage of grants and assistance available to them, to help fund new design initiatives for local and international markets and kick-start growth and success. Transform Your Design Business provides valuable insight into the grants process and offers tips for developing stand-out applications. It includes a range of grants that designers may be eligible for, including information on closing dates, eligibility criteria and grant providers. To assist designers in determining which grants are right for their businesses, each grant listing identifies the stage of business the grant is most applicable to (for example, viability and prototyping or export) and features a rating that indicates the time, effort and skill required to submit an application. "In a recent Design Victoria survey 81% of designers indicated they had never applied for a grant, most commonly due to a lack of awareness of grants available. A large number also indicated that they didn't know where to look or who to speak to," said Michele Azzopardi, Director, Design Victoria. more Transform Your Design Business: Design Victoria Launches Grants and Assistance Resource design directory Design Victoria > Design Organizations added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Crater Dot: A Contoured Pet Lounge for the Tough Pet Tasks of the DayCrater Dot is a contoured lounge for your pet."We created Crater Dot to be a relaxing pet lounge equivalent to a stylish sofa or modern recliner for humans," says Melony Lee, one of Sleepypod's three co-owners and product designers. "The clean lines of this design are inspired by organic shapes from nature. The contoured 3-D dish allows pets to have something to lean against and settle into. "Pets love to have their own space, while at the same time keeping a close eye on their owners, " Lee continues. "The portable Crater Dot can be placed wherever pet owners are working or relaxing and their pets will always be nearby." For greater functionality, Crater Dot is comprised of two parts: a Crater Lounge and a Plush Dot center. The Crater Lounge is the foam base for the removable Plush Dot. Each component is hand washable for easy cleaning. The Plush Dot center is available in three colors to suit your decor and/or mood: Mossy Green, Lunar Gray, and Blossom Pink. As an option, the pocket in the base can hold an electrical Warmer Pad to help keep a pet extra cozy. The Warmer Pad, designed to maintain a temperature of 102 F, plugs into a household electric outlet or an auto electric outlet. The Warmer Pad is the same unit designed for use in the Sleepypod mobile pet bed and is sold separately as part of the Sleepypod Warmer Kit. more sleepyp... (55) added by Levent OZLER |
![]() Change by Design: How Design Thinking Transforms Organizations and Inspires InnovationThe myth of innovation is that brilliant ideas leap fully formed from the minds of geniuses. In reality, most innovations are borne from rigor and discipline. Breakthrough ideas-whether for a new bicycle, an advertising campaign, a treatment plan for diabetes, or a program aimed at tackling the national obesity epidemic-emerge not by chance, but by studying and embracing the immediate challenges we encounter every day in our offices and homes, laboratories and hospitals, classrooms and conference rooms, and in all the spaces in between. We don't simply realize solutions; we design them. In this book Tim Brown, CEO of the celebrated innovation and design firm IDEO, introduces us to design thinking. Design is not just about creating elegant objects or beautifying the world around us. The best designers match necessity to utility, constraint to possibility, and need to demand. These design thinkers rely on rigorous observations of how we use spaces and the objects and services that occupy them; they discover patterns where others see complexity and confusion; they synthesize new ideas from seemingly disparate fragments; and they convert problems into opportunities. Design thinking is a method in which genius, in the end, is not required. Design thinking is valuable not just in so-called creative industries or for people tasked with designing products. more Change by Design: How Design Thinking Transforms Organizations and Inspires Innovation design directory Change by Design > Design Books added by Levent OZLER |
![]() The New School Presents IDEO CEO Tim Brown in Conversation with Bruce NussbaumOn September 30, The New School will present Tim Brown, Chief Executive Officer and President of IDEO, a global design consultancy, in conversation with Bruce Nussbaum, BusinessWeek Contributing Editor and Visiting Professor of Innovation and Design at The New School.Nussbaum and Brown will discuss some of the critical issues facing design and innovation today, on the occasion of the publication of Brown's new book, Change by Design: How Design Thinking Transforms Organizations and Inspires Innovation. Among the topics to be discussed in this wide-ranging conversation is the evolution of the field of design from a shaper of products to a transformer of social systems, from hospitals to schools. Brown will discuss the growing integration of design with the social sciences, including such cutting edge disciplines as design and ethnography. For example, the practice of "prototyping in the wild," where social media platforms such as Facebook, MySpace and Second Life are used as tools to understand emerging digital cultures. He will discuss how IDEO is working with the Acumen Fund and other non-profit organizations to apply design thinking to solutions to poverty. event (ended) current design events more The New School Presents IDEO CEO Tim Brown in Conversation with Bruce Nussbaum design directory Parsons > Design Education added by Levent OZLER |
