 Frog Design Offers Unique View of TEDGlobal 2009 Conference in Design Mind MagazineGlobal innovation firm frog design released a special edition of its award-winning design mind magazine, devoted exclusively to TEDGlobal, which took place from July 21-24, 2009 in Oxford, England.Sixty speakers and performers as well as 700 attendees from diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and cultures came together to explore, discuss, and celebrate the conference theme, "The Substance of Things Not Seen." frog design, a TEDGlobal partner, also produced the official program guide for TEDGlobal. The special edition of its design mind publication captures key moments of the conference - among them talks by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, author and philosopher Alain de Botton, and Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - and features interviews with and essays from many of the most intriguing TEDGlobal speakers and attendees.  PG Bison Student of the Year AwardsPG Bison Student of the Year Awards celebrates its 15th anniversary, showcasing up and coming designers.The awards evening once again acknowledged talented young designers for their contributions to this established competition. The awards ceremony took place in a prestigious gala evening held at Steinhoff's recently upgraded auditorium at their head office in Wynberg. It is the first year that a commercially orientated brief was introduced to the competition. Michael Hinze, of HKLM, helped conceptualise the brief.  Nature by Design NightNature is a modern ceramic planter intended for growing a variety of herbs and flowers.The form takes inspiration from patterns and shapes found in nature, hence the name. The largest opening at the top can hold plants that need to root deeper. Opening like a blossom, the form allows each pocket to collect water. The planter is made using a complex six-part mold (compared to the typical two- to four-part mold) with seventeen post-molding cuts. Each piece is carefully cast, hand-finished and glazed in Portland, Oregon. The planter is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. more www.des...
