Zephyr Forms Creative Collaboration With Leading Industrial Designer Robert Brunner

Zephyr Forms Creative Collaboration With Leading Industrial Designer Robert Brunner

Zephyr, a leading designer and manufacturer of design-centric, high-end kitchen ventilation hoods, today announced its new creative collaboration with award-winning industrial designer Robert Brunner.

Continuing its tradition of teaming up with the best contemporary designers, Zephyr has joined forces with Brunner to explore new aesthetic visions and develop products for the company's groundbreaking new Arc Collection.

The first models to come out of the Zephyr-Brunner collaboration are the Arc Collection's Horizon, Plane and Layers range hoods being introduced today at the 2008 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) in Chicago.

"The Zephyr team and I are true creative partners," said Brunner.

"I chose to work with Zephyr because they have a history of working effectively with outstanding designers like Fu-Tung Cheng and David Lewis.

They clearly appreciate the value a designer brings.

Also, Zephyr and I share an adventurous, forward-looking spirit of innovation.

My goal is to help Zephyr realize its creative vision for the kitchen and explore other product areas where technology and user-interface design intersect."

Brunner and Alex Siow, Zephyr's founder and senior vice president of marketing and product development, previously collaborated to create the highly successful Fuego, which develops and markets high-end gas and infrared outdoor grills.

Gusto Goes Online with Gustus

UK industrial design group Gusto Design Ltd has launched an online store called Gustus in response to demand for its "invisible" bookshelf, Sticklebook and sustainable straw artwork furniture, Baley.

Baley is made to order in Wales and is available in two sizes along with a castored version.

German fashion house, Escada, used Baley for their worldwide store window displays in spring last year.

Sticklebook was a runner up in the recent Gift Association's annual awards.

Lightbulb Moments James Dyson Awards

Lightbulb Moments: James Dyson Awards

A cyclist's jacket that uses technology from the Nintendo Wii to control automatic brake lights and indicators; a smart loo that emails your doctor a health assessment; a wheelchair that uses caterpillar tracks to lower a patient down a flight of stairs.

Some of these brilliant ideas are bound to wing their way into our homes and lives, while others are flights of fancy that may never get off the drawing board.

But all the ingenious designs on this page, which were shortlisted for this year's James Dyson Awards, suggest that the instinct for innovation among young people is in rude health.

For the vacuum-cleaner tycoon Sir James Dyson, 60, whose foundation coughed up more than £8,000 in prize money, the quality of the designs is no surprise.

"I'm continually impressed by the original ideas that young people are generating to solve everyday problems," he says.

"One advantage they have is that they have no fear of trying something that might go wrong."

Kohler Launches Breakthrough Karbon Articulating Kitchen Faucet

Kohler Launches Breakthrough Karbon Articulating Kitchen Faucet

What does the ultimate in functionality for a kitchen faucet really mean?

For Kohler ultimate functionality can be defined as a kitchen faucet that possesses the functionality and performance of a pull-down faucet, while also allowing the user to position and leave the sprayhead right where it's needed, thereby freeing up both hands for kitchen prep and clean-up tasks.

To develop a kitchen faucet that satisfied this requirement was the tall task presented to the Kohler new product development team.

The result is the new KOHLER Karbon kitchen faucet, a faucet of unexpected and intriguing design that will undoubtedly become the primary focal point of any contemporary kitchen setting.

"This articulating faucet represents a breakthrough in the evolution of the category," commented Les Petch, senior product manager for KOHLER kitchen faucets.

"The quest for the ultimate in functionality has not only produced a faucet that outperforms other models but has also yielded an astonishing piece of contemporary design work that represents as much a piece of art as the next generation in faucet technology.

It truly is a one-of-a-kind."

The original design impetus of the Karbon kitchen faucet was inspired by lighting and construction equipment with articulating joints.
